MAUI WHALE WATCHING TOURS
Every year the humpback whales migrate south from Alaska to their Hawaiian home. Our warm and protected waters make an ideal location for the humpbacks to mate and give birth to their calves. These whales are known for their acrobatics, and are often seen fully breaching out of the ocean. Each year from December through March we set out to sea and enjoy sailing with them in their natural habitat. With our motors off and sails up, we have a minimal impact on their environment while being able to share the waters with them. In season all of our charters are whale watching tours, but we offer tours daily dedicated solely to whale watching.
What to expect when sailing with Sail Maui
What should I bring on my catamaran tour?
We encourage you to be prepared for your charter with your swimwear, towels, and reef safe sunscreen. The state of Hawai’i allows only reef safe sunscreen, which should be easy to find locally. We also have reef safe sunscreen on board. We will provide all of your snorkeling equipment, including floatation noodles. Please note, we absolutely do not allow full face masks on any of our charters. We also encourage you to bring something warm for the return sail, such as a light jacket or sweater.
What should I expect when sailing aboard a catamaran?
Our vessels are designed for sailing, offering both agility and stability on the water. With a cabin offering shaded seating space, as well as refuge from the sun under our sails, our vessels ensure a comfortable experience both in and out of the sun. We have trampolines at our bow that offer lounging opportunities and a chance to peer into the beautiful water as we sail across it. We have ladders that descend into the water with hand rails to assist you going in and out. We also have freshwater showers at our stern.
